Walaupun antara NX30 dan NX20 sekilas terlihat hampir sama, namun bila dicermati ada beberapa perubahan yang terjadi pada sektor body kamera. Pentax memiliki sejarah panjang di dunia kamera yang menjadikannya sedikit berbeda dari 'dua besar' produsen SLR, memperkenalkan fitur yang biasanya ditemukan pada kamera kelas menengah ke atas yang mahal, yaitu pentaprism optical viewfinder.

Nama Pentax yang kini dimiliki oleh Ricoh, terus melanjutkan tradisi inovasi, dengan konsep digital SLR yang memiliki efek anti-aliasing yang dapat berubah dengan menekan tombol (Seperti yang dilakukan Nikon baru-baru ini dengan mematenkan konsep yang sama namun dengan cara yang berbeda). Pentax menggunakan sensor-shift image stabilizer untuk sengaja memindahkan sensor saat proses eksposure, sedikit mengaburkan gambar untuk meniru efek dari low-pass filter optik.

Pentax menghadirkan berbagai terobosan fitur ini dengan nama Kamera DSLR Pentax K-3. Kamera ini mengambil desain kasar dari K-5 II / K-5 IIs yang telah hadir di pasaran terlebih dulu dengan penambahan resolusi, peningkatan sistem AF, mempercepat prosesor, dan memperbesar LCD dan jendela bidik.

DSLR Pentax K-3

Saat dilihat pertama kali, Pentax K-3 mungkin terlihat seperti Pentax K-5 II dengan resolusi sensor yang lebih tinggi, tapi itu jauh dari kenyataannya. Ricoh telah melakukan peningkatan dalam segala hal, dengan perhatian khusus diberikan pada kemampuan merekam video. Di sisi foto, ada sensor baru, perbaikan autofocus dan metering sistem, jendela bidik optik dan LCD besar, dan tentu saja pilihan AA filter. Kecepatan pengambilan gambar continuous pada K-3 mencapai 8.3 fps, meningkat dari 7.0 fps pada K-5 II.

Pentax K-3 juga menggunakan SAFOX 11 sebagai sistem autofocus yang baru, yang memiliki 27-AF point (25 di antaranya adalah cross-type). Sistem metering mengalami peningkatan dramatis, meninggalkan 77-segment pada K-5 menjadi 86.000 RGB piksel pada K-3.

Para pecinta videografi akan menemukan semua jenis fitur baru pada Pentax K-3. Adanya 'tombol merah' yang didedikasikan untuk merekam video dengan cepat, mic dan headphone input , dan kontrol atas tingkat audio. Frame rate juga telah meningkat menjadi 1080/60i.

Dua fitur andalan yang cukup menggembirakan adalah adanya slot SD card ganda dan dukungan untuk USB 3.0. Membangun kualitas tinggi, dengan body yang kokoh, dan tahan terhadap berbagai cuaca.
Fitur baru yang paling signifikan pada Pentax K-3 adalah 'anti-aliasing simulator'. Seperti pada Pentax K-5 IIs kamera tidak memiliki filter anti-aliasing, lebih pada improvisasi resolusi, tetapi dengan trade-off dari peningkatan risiko moiré. Pentax menggunakan K-3 sensor-shift IS sistem untuk mensimulasikan efek filter.

Sebuah AA simulator bekerja dengan menerapkan 'getaran mikroskopis untuk unit sensor gambar pada tingkat sub-pixel saat ekspose'. Sederhananya, getaran kecil ini menyebabkan cukup blur untuk memberikan efek yang sama seperti memiliki anti-aliasing filter optik.  Ada dua pilihan yaitu tipe 1 dan tipe 2 yang di asumsikan sebagai kekuatan dari virtual filter. Pentax mengatakan bahwa simulator AA ini paling efektif digunakan bila kecepatan rana di bawah 1/1000 detik.
